Covenant Kodi Subtitles: A Troublesome Issue with No Resolution

As a user of Kodi, I'm sure you've encountered numerous issues while trying to troubleshoot problems with your favorite media player. Unfortunately, one such issue has been plaguing me for over six different versions - the inability to add subtitles from external sources using Covenant.

The problem begins when I try to search for subtitles from every single video addon (I've used everything!) and then attempt to add them to a movie or series episode from an external source such as a USB stick or external hard drive. Kodi Leia freezes, forcing me to end the process manually using Ctrl+Alt+Del.

As expected, even upgrading or downgrading Kodi doesn't seem to resolve this issue. It's frustrating to see that this bug has persisted for so long without any noticeable progress towards a fix.

To reproduce this problem, follow these steps:

1. Open Kodi and navigate to the video addon of your choice.

2. Search for subtitles related to a movie or series episode.

3. Select the desired subtitle file from the search results.

4. Attempt to add the subtitle to the movie or series episode from an external source.

The actual behavior that occurs is quite different from what's expected. Instead of successfully adding the subtitles, Kodi freezes and becomes unresponsive, requiring me to force close it.

In conclusion, this issue has been a persistent nuisance for me, and I hope that Team Kodi will consider my problem report and take steps towards resolving it. Until then, I'll be forced to continue dealing with the inconvenience of manually closing Kodi every time I try to add subtitles from an external source.
